This project is particularly important considering that the vessels are built by one of the largest Norwegian shipbuilding groups and were supplied through our customer Rolls-Royce Marine.
Rolls-Royce has a world leading range of capabilities in the marine market, encompassing vessel design, the integration of complex systems and the supply and support of power and propulsion equipment. We are proud to partner with leaders in mission-critical systems for offshore oil and gas rigs, offshore, merchant and naval vessels.
These are the first two generators for a project including other two explorer vessels that will bring travellers to unique and exclusive destinations in the world.
The challenge was to design and build technologically advanced electrical machines, which are also environmentally friendly.
The alternator design has been developed with special attention to any possible static and dynamic structural aspect involved, as well as the clear objective to improve the machine power/weight ratio.
From the start our focus was on getting optimum interface with the structures and propulsion elements with which the alternators will be coupled on board of the vessels.
Static and rotating elements have been optimized by numerical simulations to guarantee mechanical reliability and thermal efficiency of the alternators. The alternators have been designed and build-on matching the historical experience of Marelli Motori with the latest technologies.
