Marelli Motori has been commissioned to design and manufacture bow thruster motors by Alewijnse Marine to equip the new Damen Marine Aggregate Dredger (MAD) 3500.
Damen Shipyards Group has awarded Alewijnse Marine the contract for the complete electrical outfitting of the group’s first Marine Aggregate Dredger (MAD) 3500. This innovative vessel is a ground-breaking design by Damen and the British owner CEMEX UK Marine Limited. This highly advanced and efficient dredger is designed to extract sand and gravel from the sea bed at depths of up to 55 metres, in challenging locations including the North Sea.
Thanks to our very long experience in supplying motors and generators to the marine industry for a variety of different on-board applications, Marelli Motori was selected as supplier of bow thruster motors to equip the new MAD 3500 dredger and guarantee the manoeuvrability of this innovative vessel in challenging working conditions.
The motors which will be installed on the dredger are C3M 355 type, with nominal power of 300 kW at 690V | 50 Hz and can reach a maximum speed of 1496 rpm. Our marine motors have been designed with specific focus on reducing dimensions and vibrations while maximizing the functioning efficiency.
